Thank you, friends, for providing feedback in my last post via the polls, in the comments, and as email replies. I have been considering changing the name of this newsletter for some time. Now that I am studying library science, I wanted a name that would encompass bookish things and my writing news, but still allows room to explore magic and whimsy. My poetry book, True North, is still a major part of my identity. As someone with a background in helping others to find their personal myths, and as one who is on a lifelong journey of finding magic and weaving my own life story, it was important to me that my newsletter reflect this search for True North.
Through my newsletters, I hope to guide you to pieces of your personal mythology — whether through book reviews and recommendations, sharing my own poems and pages from my personal journal that may resonate, and/or offering tips for finding magic in the ordinary.
So, without further ado, my newsletter is now called Ink-Stained Compass.
The name change does not drastically affect the content or frequency of my newsletter. Paid subscribers will still receive four newsletters a month and free subscribers will receive two (including one Muse Monday feature per month).
The description for Musings of a Selkie Witch was, “The journal of a poetic selkie witch searching for her True North through stories and magic.” This will still be at the heart of my newsletter, but I suppose I am claiming the role of guide. My newsletter will be a compass to guide you to magic. It will also be a place where we can all share stories of our search for True North.
I hope to make this newsletter more interactive through sharing notes more frequently so that we can participate in this conversation as a community. I’d like to slowly step away from Instagram, but what I love most about that platform is the community and the conversations we have in the comments of posts and in group messages. If anyone has suggestions for how to make Substack more of a social media platform for kindred spirits to connect and share our journeys, please comment your ideas.
I hope you are as excited about this name change as I am, and as always, I welcome your thoughts in the comments or as an email reply.
With love,
Caitlin
Sounds like a wonderful name Caitlin and I love it. The idea of a compass for like minded souls is very fitting. The truth is that your writings and words provide truths and directions for your readers.
Love the name change! I’m excited to be on this journey with you, I know it’ll be full of wonder and excitement! 🤍
