And so, the wheel turns. Today is the Spring Equinox for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Do you feel any different? Have you shed your winter coat? I must admit that a part of me hoped this day would feel special, that the magic of the day would at least whisper to me if it couldn’t shout. There is a mellow warmth to the day. The snow has melted. The sun dazzles. It is a peaceful day. A quiet day. But where is the magic?
I hear geese and a solitary crow. A puddle of light dances on the ceiling. Ordinarily, these simple things would wrap me in a web of magic, but today I feel somehow cut off from my spirit. I’m strangely adrift.
Water is the element I return to again and again when I need to reconnect with my soul, and so I have a bath. I wash away the stagnant energy, pouring water over my body, from a seashell. The ritual revives me. I’m still not entirely myself, but I sense my magic stirring. I decide to cast a spell.
Good Fortune Spell
First, I gather my ingredients: salt, green herbs, a pinch of cinnamon, three crystals, a tiny green candle, gold thread, a small dish, and matches.
I cast a circle of protection and invite my ancestors and spirit guides to join me. The ingredients go into the dish, except for the candle and thread. I work knot magic as I tie the thread around the candle. A cantrip is spoken. The candle is placed in the dish and lighted.
The spell is cast, not just for me, but for any of you who need even the slightest pinch of good fortune. Gaze into the candle flame for as long as you need and know that good fortune will find you.
The day is still young here. I will walk in the woods and see if I can spot any more signs of spring. It may snow again before the month is over, but at least it is officially spring now. The season that feels like home to me. My heart is glad of this.
Thank you for reading. If you’d like to leave a comment sharing how you celebrate the spring equinox, I’d be glad to read it.
That is a lovely spell. I hope you feel revived soon🤍
Lol, right after I typed that I was reminded of one of my favorite songs. Into The Mystic by Van Morrison. If you don't know it, I'm pretty sure you would like it. There are some great versions on YouTube.
