I wrote the bulk of my novel, Finding the Bird Whisperer during National Novel Writing Month, which is an event that takes place every November with the goal of completing a 50K word novel by the end of the month. Finding the Bird Whisperer is over 90K words by now, but I did write the bones of it one November during NaNoWriMo.
This year, I made the last-minute decision to participate in NaNoWriMo with the intention of writing 20K words of a middle grade book. The book is as of yet untitled, but it is about a girl who moves to a seaside village to live with her aunt who is a witch. Think of it as Anne of Green Gables meets Practical Magic.
Starting in January, I’ll be working towards a master’s in library science and won’t have much time for my writing projects and therefore I had to decide which project I wanted to concentrate on while my schedule is still open.
