Blessed Imbolc to those of you who celebrate! This has always been one of my favorite holy days, for it is in honor of the goddess Brigid who I relate to as a poet, artist, and keeper of the hearth. It is also the start of spring, for though the weather can be quite wintry, the daylight has returned, and the energy just feels springlike.
Before I get into my Imbolc celebrations, I have some poetry news to share. First, three of my poems were recently published by Kind Over Matter. You can read them right here.
Secondly, I am thrilled to announce a few of my poems were published in a poetry anthology edited by Beth Stedman. Our book of love poems released just in time for Valentine’s Day. You can order it here in e-book or paperback.
And now back to ways in which I celebrate this first glimmer of spring. My Imbolc celebrations always involve lighting a candle to recognize the return of the sun, eating dairy products (sheep’s milk cheese is one of my favorites) and persimmons because the vivid orange color makes me think of Brigid and her flame-colored hair.
Imbolc was traditionally celebrated on February 1st (which is also Saint Brigid’s feast day) and is still celebrated in a different form today as Candlemas.
My celebrations tend to be seasonal rather than limited to a single day, so I am very much in Imbolc season at the moment.
This means I am feeling expansive and have a burst of creative, springlike energy, but because I am in an academically demanding graduate school program, I don’t have the time to start any new projects. Instead, here are some poems I wrote a while ago.
