An Invisibility Spell

Hello Dear Reader,

There was a time when I chose to disappear. Too many threads spiderwebbed between my toxic ex and members of my community. By interacting with any of them, I risked putting myself and my child in danger. And so, I put on my cloak of invisibility and quietly slipped away. Where once I drew attention by simply shining my light, I learned to create portals and slip through the veil. A blanket of fog accompanied me anytime I needed to run errands where I’d risk running into anyone from my ex’s world. And somehow, the people I once used to cross paths with daily seemed to vanish. We belong to the same town but exist in different layers of it. And for the most part, I like it that way.

There are many methods I have used for “becoming invisible,” but the following spell is perhaps my favorite.

A Spell for Invisibility

If you need to remain off radar for a time, to protect yourself from someone, or for whatever reason, here is a spell that works by allowing you to slip through the cracks. People tend to forget about you. Those that would cross paths with you suddenly change their schedule. It’s almost as if you never existed to them. The universe conspires to keep them out of your life.

Hint: Fairy tales are full of spells. Look and you will find. This one (passed down through the generations) comes from the Swedish version of Cinderella.

Take a small object that you will charm. It should be something that you can easily carry with you. A small piece of jewelry. A scarf. A tiny crystal. A silver charm. A hag stone. Another option is to create a sigil that you can draw on the bottom of a shoe, or place on a piece of paper tucked into your bag.

If you have to travel through a place where you don’t feel safe, consider casting this spell. And of course, as always, combine the practical with the magical.

Cast your circle, call in the elements, do whatever you do in your practice before casting a spell. Hold your object in your hand or take pen and paper and create your sigil. Focus your attention on being invisible. Envision a cloak of fog around you. Imagine you can slip by without being noticed. As you visualize this clearly, chant (until you feel the pulse of the magic and know it is done):

“Light before me,

Darkness after me,

and may no one know

whither I go.”

Carry your charmed object (or sigil) with you whenever you need to go unnoticed.

Though this spell has served me well, these days I am ready to shine again. There are people I’d rather not see but if I do, so be it. Enough time has passed and my circumstances have changed to the point that I no longer feel the need to hide. But if I ever do, I have a whole toolkit of spells to use.
