Today, I wanted to share the first poem I wrote this year, at the beginning of January. The words came to me out of the blue, as is often the case with my poetry. I’ll hear a string of words, or clearly see an image, that will prompt me to grab my pen and notebook and start scribbling words down as fast as they come.
Usually, I just share my unpublished poems with my paid subscribers here on Substack, but today I was feeling brave enough to share with anyone who happens upon this. So, please feel free to share. It would actually mean a lot to me.
don't let the styrofoam things cling to your brick tight skin. roll back your shoulders and breathe their release. watch as they change to grains of sand that swirl away in the summer breeze as waves wash your feet. a ritual older than the moon. a homecoming.
As always, I welcome your thoughts in the comments. And in honor of a month of loved one’s birthdays, paid subscriptions are on sale! It’s normally $55 for a year, but if you subscribe anytime this month, it’ll only be $30! Monthly subscriptions are still $5 per month. You can change your subscription below if you are interested. And of course, I still offer free content too.
"Brick tight skin" so evocative. A beautiful poem! Thanks for sharing!
“…Roll back your shoulders
and breath their release…”
These lines were so tangible, I could feel my body relaxing as I read them 🥰🙏🏼. Thank you for sharing Caitlin!
